Renewable Heat Incentive
In Decemeber 2016 the Government announced that it will be keeping the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) for Solar Thermal until at least 2020. The RHI is a UK Government backed scheme aimed at proliferating the use of Renewable Products to cut our greenhouse gas emissions associated with heating. This is part of the Government’s plan for tackling climate change and enhancing our security of energy supply. The scheme is applicable in England, Wales and Scotland. RHI is split into two categories; Domestic and Non-Domestic.
Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive |
Applies to residential properties. With some exceptions, it is a per kW payment, paid for 7 years on an assumed power requirement calculated by the installer. Tariff Rates: Domestic RHI Rates |
Non-Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive |
Applies to all other properties. It is a per kW payment, paid on a metered output for 20 years. Tariff Rates: Non Domestic RHI Rates |
For Domestic RHI, you can get an estimate of how much benefit you would receive from the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive Payment Calculator.
For Non-Domestic RHI, you would estimate the returns by reviewing existing or projected heat requirements and applying the tariff directly.
