How do we determine the solar yield for a system?
Use our Solar Thermal Design Assistant to build the system that you are assessing, this will give both a figure for the SAP solar input as required by MCS and our own estimated figure based on thousands of computer simulations.
What is the best way to size a system?
For domestic systems and small commercial systems use our System Sizing Wizard available in the Toolbox. This will invite you to enter basic information about the property and water storage and then suggest a suitably sized system. You can even build a quote or buy the system from our shop based on this information.
If the project is more complicated please contact us and we will be able to assist based on both our experience and more advanced computer modelling that we have available.
How do we design an East-West split system?
First of all check that the property is facing exactly East and West. If not, it is often more economical to overload one side of the property that has even the smallest amount of “south” in its orientation and leave the other side bare.
If you do need to install an East-West split system then you will require a collector on both roof faces, and a three-line/dual-pump pump station. The pump station is designed to independently pump each collector array. Therefore in the morning pump A will be working, at lunchtime both pumps and in the afternoon Pump B will be working.
How do we size a solar system to assist heating a swimming pool?
We offer standard pool systems that will be suitable for most domestic outdoor pools, however if your requirements are more complicated then please contact us and we can help size the system.
Should we use solar thermal for Space Heating?
No, unless there is an outdoor swimming pool within the vicinity of the property.
How does the Renewable Heat Incentive for solar thermal work?
Please refer to our Renewable Heat Incentive which explains this in detail.
