How can I buy your equipment?

Ideally you would purchase a Barilla system through a suitably accredited Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) installation company. This will ensure that your system is installed in accordance with industry standards, will carry a warranty and that the company you are dealing with is bound by a consumer code of practice.

How do I find an accredited solar thermal installer?

You can either search the MCS database or contact us and we will endeavour to put you in touch with somebody who has experience of installing Barilla equipment in your local area.

What grants and incentives are available to the homeowner?

Please go to page on our website that gives details about the Renewable Heat Incentive.

How long does a Solar Thermal system take to pay back?

This depends upon many factors including:

  • The annual yield from the solar system
  • The installed cost of the system and annual maintenance costs
  • The fuel type and boiler efficiency of your current system
  • The level of incentives available
  • Future macro economic factors including fuel inflation, interest rates, inflation and incentive schemes

Your MCS accredited installer is required to give you an indication of the annual yield of the solar thermal system.

Are Barilla Solar Collectors certified to a European standard?

Both the flat-plate and evacuated tube range of collectors are tested in accordance with EN12975 Part 2 to certify their durability and performance. All of our collectors also carry the European Solar Keymark certificate, which entitles Barilla collectors to qualify under the Microgeneration Installation Scheme (MCS).

Can I use solar panels to help with my central heating in the winter?

In most cases the answer is no, solar thermal produces most of its yield in the spring, summer and autumn. If you add enough solar collectors to satisfy the heating requirement in winter the system would be vastly over-powered in the summer with no simple way of dissipating the excess heat.

The exception to this is if you have an outdoor swimming pool. You can then use the solar thermal to assist heating your pool in the summer and to contribute to your space heating in the winter.
